GATHINJA YAMOKOSKI, THE FOUNDER OF TRUE AFRICAN ART, grew up in Kenya, East Africa. In these 25 years she witnesed the impact poverty can toil on any individual or community, while experiencing a strong kinship with her peers that transcended this monetary reality.
In 2000, Gathinja earned a College degree in Fashion Design. In 2002, she relocated to The United States to marry her husband of 23 years whom she met while he was volunteering in Kenya.
In the years that followed, Gathinja traveled extensively, inside and outside the USA. Here, she adopted a deep appreciation for cultural diversity. Gathinja also regularly visits Kenya to nurture her connection with local artists and extended family.
In 20114, Gathinja became a U.S. citizen, the same year she and her husband’s only child was born.
Gathinja Yamokoski’s online art business journey began in 2004, managing another website's African art sales and customer service. In 2008, she was inspired by the owner, from her great work, to create her own gallery.
