Thread artworks are characterized & authenticated by looping threads, diamond-like highlights and vibrance radiating from the silk-threads which enhance the overall look, feel & value.

The art pieces are handmade in a tedious, but rewarding process by bonding two strands (thickness - 2mm) of looping silk thread of different shades and colors on the fibreboard or canvas until the entire canvas reveals the work of art. The result is a shimmering imagery, stunning to the beholder.

Frequently Asked Questions:

What is Consignment?  Consignment means that the Yeboah's make your silk thread artwork in Ghana and send the final work to you in the mail from Ghana.  The Yeboah's are paid for their work after their art reaches you and you approve it.

Who are the Yeboah's?  The Yeboah's are a Family in Ghana that create the Silk Thread art you see here on our site. We are your connection between your order through us and the Yeboah Family in Ghana, who create and ship your art.

How did you connect with the Yeboah's?  Emmanuel's son, Solomon, reached out to us in June of 2018 asking for their family to be put on our website. After some interviews and negotiating, an agreement contract was sealed with the Yeboah’s for True African Art to have direct access to just about any kind of thread creation they can muster.

How do you keep my payment secure?  We collect payment for the art from you and do not release to the Yeboah's their portion of your payment until after their artwork is in your hands and you approve it through us, True African Art, in New York.  This protocol protects everyone involved.

What is the history and definition of Silk Thread Art?  Starting in 1978, Emmanuel Yeboah started as an originator and artist of an exquisite technique, creating beautiful works of art and eventually becoming a master leader in his craft.

This artistry he practiced in Ghana was over 100 years old and is believed, like so many other things, that the technique Emmanuel was using originated from inside Africa a long time ago.  The art was so rare and valuable that Kings and Queens of times past wore it as their Royal Kente clothing.

The art technique we speak of is Silk Thread Art, also known as threading.

Is my Art made by hand?  Yes, the Yeboah Family hand stitch each Thread Art.

How is it created?  The most important part for any kind of art is conceptualizing the piece in the mind as much as one can. For the Silk Thread Art process, the Yeboah's have to outline how the piece will come out as a physical product: deciding on the colors, shapes, and the general personality of a custom piece. Then, they draw the edges of the piece and by hand, takes the long process of coloring the drawing with two strands of looping silk of different shades and colors of actual thread. This is done on canvas or a flexible paper board. The thread is not sourced locally, but imported from other countries outside Ghana.

The art piece is handmade in a tedious but rewarding process by bonding two strands (thickness - 2mm) of looping silk thread of different shades and colors on the fibreboard or canvas until the entire canvas reveals the work of art. The result is a shimmering imagery stunning to the beholder.

How much is a custom artwork?  It depends on the size, amount of subjects, and what you want to pay.  Prices will vary based on the project skill involved and its content.  Either way, we will accept any reasonable offer and will work on your behalf in mind for what you want to pay for your custom artwork.  We can negotiate by phone at +1.914.444.2159 or by e-mail at: Info@TrueAfricanArt.com

In the past, we have negotiated custom threading from $800 to $2,500.

The Silk Thread Art is expensive.  How can I afford it?  All professional art is expensive in nature.  We do not inflate prices or exploit our artists.  In fact, most of the our art is much more affordable than any average gallery in the USA.  With True African Art, you can elect to make payments on the artwork at 0% interest or fixed payments through Shop Pay.

Who ships my artwork?   To minimize costs, the Yeboah's will mail the art directly to you from Ghana, rather than to us and then from us to you.  That plan is just too unsafe, complicated. and expensive....we'd rather have the Yeboah's do one direct mailing.  Shipping is included worldwide in the price of your Silk Thread. There is no extra cost to ship anywhere worldwide.  We use DHL as our carrier.

How will the Silk Thread get to me and how much does it cost to deliver?  Express shipping worldwide via DHL is included in the price of the art.  Delivery via DHL takes about 1 week more or less to reach you at most. The Yeboah's give us the tracking number and we e-mail it to you.  The Thread Art will be sent either flat or widely rolled in a tube.  You can hang it as is once received or choose to have it framed.

How long will it take from when I place my order to when I receive the art?
We have an expedited process with the Yeboah Family.  Since they deliver directly to your address from Ghana, you can expect to receive your artwork in about 2-3 weeks from when you first place your order, more or less, depending on the scale of your portrait.  We can let you know more specifically the delivery date once your order is processed.
